Royal opening for Heckington Windmill

The people of Heckington gave a warm welcome to HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne when she officially opened the renovation project at Heckington Windmill. The £1.65m regeneration scheme at the complex is the culmination of a decade of fundraising and planning by the Trust which operates the site.

The unique eight-sailed mill has had new sails installed and the old granary, garage and piggery have been converted into a visitor centre and toilets. The Mill House has been upgraded with tea rooms decorated to reflect the interior styles of the 1930s and 1940s. The site also contains interpretation rooms and displays, the Eight Sailed Brewery and a working kitchen in the former bakehouse.

Princess Anne met trustees as well as some of the many volunteers who help run the Windmill and site.
