The Lincoln Art Sale concluded a record breaking January, with buyers spending over £875,000 at the Lincolnshire salerooms.

Amongst the 5,000 lots offered Lincolnshire artists still shone through.

A classical themed oil painting by William Edward Millner (1849-1895) titled Naked Maiden with Lions and Tigers, consigned from Highfield House in Gainsborough upon instructions of WSR Parry, exceeded its estimate, selling for £2,200.

Five works by the Lincolnshire artist Tony Bartl (1912-1998) were offered at the auction. Top price went to a local view; Lincoln Cathedral from Temple Garden, Usher Art Gallery sold for double the pre-sale estimate at £550.

Another local artist and local view combination saw a Colin Carr (1929-2002) watercolour of Castle Square beat the top estimate, selling for £260.

Amongst the international art on offer, an oil on board by Otto Ritschl (1885-1976) titled Mondmädchen sold for £1,400, as did another oil titled Life on the Nile Bank by Kamel Moustafa (1917-1982).

The sale ended with a collection of portrait work by Hyman Segal (1914-2004), consigned from the estate of the late Nigel Marshall. Top price went to a typical example of his work, titled Cornish Fisherman, selling for £170.
