The sales of St George’s

By William Gregory MRICS, Golding Young and Mawer.
Following the retirement of father and son, Gavin and Ross Burns of St George’s Antiques, Stamford, Golding Young were instructed to auction one of the most important collections of antiques to be offered on the market in our region for over a generation.

After three months of cataloguing, research, logistics and over 4,000 photographs, the first of four sales was held on 24th April at The Bourne Auction Rooms.

Viewing had been particularly busy on the Bank Holiday Monday and St George’s Day resulting in a packed saleroom of distinguished antiques dealers, private connoisseurs and collectors for the auction day. Competition was assured by the registration of over 1,000 online, telephone and commission bids; all carefully overseen by auctioneer Colin Young, using all of his 30 years’ expertise to encourage buyers to spend a total in excess of £250,000 for the first day’s sale.

The final selections from the collections will appear at the monthly sales at Bourne, Grantham and Lincoln.
