Lincoln Art Sale

The Lincoln Fine Art Auction held by Golding Young and Mawer on 28th October attracted bidders from across the globe via the online platform, with live internet bidding alongside the more traditional telephone and absentee commission bidders. Over 80% of lots sold above their lower auction estimate.

Lincolnshire artists featured well at the auction, with a Peter Brannan (1926–1994) oil painting titled Coal Mine selling for £1,000, and another coastal scene of Cleethorpes nearly doubling the auction estimate with a final bid of £900.

Scothern artist Vincent Haddelsey (1934–2010) sold at the mid auction estimate of £500 for an oil on canvas titled The Last Fence.

Also of Lincolnshire interest were a number of works from the estate of the Late Miss Rachel Monson. These included an impressive seascape by Louis Etienne Timmermans (1846–1910) which sold for £1,000, and a collection of watercolours signed Rachel Mary Harrier Kinnear featuring many local scenes including Burton Hall and Rectory. The pictures were sold in multiple lots, which totalled just over £1,000 at the sale.

Other notable results from the auction include a 19th-century Dutch School scene with figures and barge, which saw numerous bidders compete to a final bid of £1,400.

A 19th-century British School oil portrait of a military gentleman, possibly General James Blair, sold to a telephone bidder for £900.

Pre-sale interest was rewarded when an oil canvas by Denys James Watkins Pitchford (1905–1990), Huntsman and Hounds in Woodland, sold at top estimate for £900.
