Cameras are a regular feature of collective auctions.
Owners are often reluctant to dispose of an old camera after the purchase of a new one but over time a household drawer becomes the unsuspecting camera collector’s storage – until there is a determined de-clutter and a consignment is sent to auction.
Regular standard cameras are normally sold in group lots for modest prices but at a recent auction in Lincoln there were some premium makes and models on offer.
Values for these top examples appear to be influenced by new retail prices and rarity. Condition is also an important factor.
Leica is a leading brand in the market and illustrated below are two lots sold at the auction for £1,700 and £3,000.
Other makes sold include a Hasselblad 501CM for £1,300, and a Pentax 67 which sold for £1,400.
Also shown below is a Rolleiflex which is a popular brand with models normally making modest prices but the Rolleiflex 2.8GX edition had a limited production of 1,500, and this rarity helped to push up the auction price to £1,700.
