The Lincoln Fine Art auction held in May saw a 90% sold rate with over 300 lots selling.

Highlights from the auction included an oil on canvas by Edinburgh artist Lucy Jones. This was the fourth work by the artist to be successfully offered in the Lincoln Auction Rooms; with this latest example doubling its presale estimate when the hammer fell at £1,000.

Other 20th-century offerings included £1,200 for a colourful watercolour by Fred Yates. Of the three artist signed Lowry prints in the auction, the top price went to The Pond which was bought by a telephone bidder for £5,800.

Within an interesting section featuring Lincolnshire artists, a country scene by John Trickett sold for £500.

19th-century and earlier works found equal success at the auction.

A collection of works by the Victorian landscape artist Walter Heath Williams saw a top price of £1,000 for a pair of works depicting figures and sheep.

£1,300 was bid for another pair of paintings, this time by Alfred Clint – a past president of The Society of British Artists. The oils on canvas of coastal cove scenes were both signed by the artist and one was dated 1864.

A slightly earlier oil painting of a racehorse and jockey dated 1843 by the Victorian artist Joseph Dunn had everyone in a flutter. Auction interest on the day saw bidding go right to the line with a winning bid of £800.
