Auctions have always benefitted from the collector; those passionate individuals who keep and cherish often ephemeral items, which were originally intended for a single use.
One such collection recently came up for auction, consisting of football ephemera or memorabilia, dating from the 1940s up to the 1960s. It consisted of a vast collection of football programmes mainly relating to Grimsby Town football club.
The programmes detail one passionate supporter’s visits to matches, and whilst no one can truly know which matches took our collector to the edge of their seat, a highlight is surely the 1966 World Cup quarter final held at Hillsborough.
The collection was offered in 15 lots, which sold for just over £600.
