WEDDING FIRST AT HARLAXTON MANOR
Same sex marriage was legalised in 2014 and Harlaxton Manor, near Grantham, had not held a male same sex wedding until recently.
Ashley and Kevin held their wedding at the Manor on Saturday 30th July marking a moment in the Manor’s near 200-year history.
The couple met anonymously online a few years ago when Kevin reached out for support in understanding his sexuality, having only been in a heterosexual relationship before. It was during this time that the pair fell in love, having never met one another.
In 2020, Kevin and Ashley finally met in person and started dating.
walking in the grounds of Harlaxton Manor, Kevin asked Ashley to marry him by the river as the clock struck 3pm. The ring was exchanged and the two agreed that the Manor was so beautiful, that only there could they see themselves exchanging their vows.
celebrate the special day, local businesses were used to decorate the stately rooms and the local grammar school provided the musicians to play live at the wedding.
The couple walked down the aisle at 2pm to Calum Scott’s song ‘Biblical’, wearing white suits from a boutique store in London owned by a gay couple. The dining tables were dedicated to gay rights activities and LGBTQ+ people who’ve changed history.
Ashley and Kevin are so grateful to their entourage for their support which includes Kevin’s own daughters, Teegan and Maizie, who walked him down the aisle, Sophie and James for their steady guiding hand and Tom for his incredible heart-warming, belly-laughing speech!
