It has been a hectic but rewarding few months for Ryan and Hollie Blankley, receiving recognition in their first year at Watergate Yard, Sleaford for the quality of food, drink and entertainment they are delivering to customers.
‘’Having travelled far and wide, we knew the kind of places we liked to drink and dine at and felt we could bring our take on it to Sleaford. When the opportunity arose to take on the former Rose & Crown on Watergate, we seized it.”

The building had sadly been closed for several years but with its colourful history dating back to the mid-16th century as a former coaching inn, Ryan and Hollie felt it was time to restore and rejuvenate it. Their style blends period character with vintage industrial touches carefully matched to a colour palette that enhances the natural features of the building whilst remaining contemporary and relaxed.

“We had a wonderful summer and couldn’t have asked for better weather. The courtyard is beautiful; a stunning sun trap full of wild flowers, bees and butterflies and in the winter, blankets, outdoor heaters and the fire pit means those crisp, dry days can be enjoyed.”

The lounge and dining room provide the perfect place to sit back and unwind. The pub is open throughout the day, serving brunch, lunch and dinner until 9pm.

So, whether you’re meeting with friends, taking a working lunch, or catching up on family time, you’ll find a warm welcome awaits.

The drinks selection at WY was carefully selected by the couple, who run the pub as a freehouse. “We have nine draught beers at the bar as well as a choice of over 60 different gins and 20 different tonics and mixers. You will find exclusive lagers such as Japanese Asahi, local artisan spirit Lincoln Gin as well as seasonal variations such as mulberry and sloe or root ginger flavoured choices.”

Proving popular has been the daily G&T and bottled beer, two-for-one offer which is available from 5pm to 7pm. Perfect for unwinding after a busy working day or before enjoying supper at Watergate Yard.

“Our chefs are preparing food from scratch, even homemade pesto and Asian inspired marinades appear on the menus,” said Hollie. “We wanted to bring fresh, contemporary choices to the town while still sourcing the best ingredients from local suppliers such as our local butcher.”

During December, Hollie and Ryan will be welcoming guests with more live music events each Friday and Saturday and a range of family themed entertainment. On Sunday 2nd December, as part of Sleaford Christmas Market, there will be a Festive Open Mic session from 2pm to 6pm, with a Hog Roast and Magic Show to entertain guests of all ages.

Christmas Day opening will be from 11.30am to 2pm for drinks, while customers are invited to see in the New Year at Watergate Yard with a Hog Roast, DJ and live vocals from Rachel Calladine.

Events are always free at Watergate Yard; just a warm welcome, outstanding food and a great atmosphere.

2019 will see no let-up in the pace for Hollie and Ryan with the recent opening of four en-suite bed and breakfast rooms and further investment in their exciting approach to the quality and choice of hospitality in Sleaford.
