Lincolnshire Life County Cuisine Awards – A Taste of Excellence 2012/13

A memorable evening celebrating the best of county cuisine.
Finalists, sponsors and guests joined Lincolnshire Life at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Lincoln to announce the winners of this year’s County Cuisine Awards. Lincolnshire Life were delighted to be there in association with Love Food Select Lincolnshire as part of the Lincolnshire Food and Drink Awards 2013.

The event was sponsored by DoubleTree by Hilton and Lincolnshire Co-operative in addition to the sponsors of the ‘Taste of Excellence’ judging categories: Young Chef of the Year in association with Lincoln College; Heart of Gold Best Tearoom or Coffee Shop; Tastes of Lincolnshire Best Pub Food and House of Townend Best Restaurant.

The awards were also filmed and streamed live to over four hundred internet viewers as part of the Onlincolnshire project to bring superfast broadband to the county.

Guests enjoyed a five course meal featuring produce from some of the best known local names including pork from Redhill Farm free range pork, Abbey Parks and Lincolnshire Poacher cheese. During the meal, a vote was taken using scan codes too. The guest speaker was Sophie Wells, Paralympian Gold Medal winner, who spoke about her and her horses’ years of hard training to achieve their moment of triumph at London 2012.

Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Mr Tony Worth also spoke about the appeal to create a memorial to Bomber Command in the county.

YOUNG CHEF OF THE YEAR
In association with Lincoln College

Winner: Gini Robinson
Her triple layer lemon tart with glazed figs and blackberry coulis was judged the best dish of the competition.

HEART OF GOLD BEST TEAROOM OR COFFEE SHOP
Winner: Myers Café Tea Room – Horncastle
The judges commented on the friendliness of all the staff who served a warm welcome to all customers. Quality of dishes very high and especially Myers’ dedication to Lincolnshire produce, variety and originality of menu took them into the lead.

The Old Pottery Tea Room – Wrangle
Pooley’s Tea Room – Messingham

TASTES OF LINCOLNSHIRE – LOVE FOOD SELECT LINCOLNSHIRE BEST PUB FOOD
Winner: The Hare and Hounds – Fulbeck
Another closely contested category, with The Hare and Hounds impressing the judges with every dish and course served. It was the whole package in terms of food, service and ambience. A family business where attention to detail matters and is reflected in the quality of the staff serving too.

HOUSE OF TOWNEND BEST RESTAURANT
Presented by Nick Walne of House of Townend

Winner: The Comfy Duck at Oaklands Hall Hotel – Laceby
The judges’ report praised a restaurant which is delivering exceptional service and dishes with a roll call of some of Lincolnshire’s best produce and suppliers declared loud and proud on a full page at the beginning of the menu.
